We specialize in designing and building custom shotcrete swimming pools and pool-related structures. WhY CHOOSE US?

Hansen Pools is a custom pool design and build company that values each and every homeowner’s unique vision. We treat our customers the way we would like to be treated and this commitment shows in hundreds of satisfied families than come almost exclusively from word-of-mouth. We are not looking to be the biggest pool builder in California, we only take on what we can handle in the most professional way possible.

Our process:

Excavation

Depending on unforeseeable objects underground or circumstances such as excavations on the side of a hill, you usually get the best price with the most access that you are able to provide. You should also prepare additional grading when it is not included in your contract, grading inspection for certain cities, over-excavation, soil reports, and zone fees for hauling dirt away when it is not included in your contract.

Structural Steel

A very quick part of the process, this often lasts only a couple of hours or maybe two days. A pool on flat ground in a generally wide open area that has a relatively basic design without infinity edges, complex water features, or other structures attached to it can involve a fairly standard set, but pools on hillsides or ones with grottos, waterfalls, infinity edges, or other kinds of structures tied into the pool design may require a separate set of engineering for each item that needs to make sure all the other items are included.

Plumbing, Gas, and Electrical

Pool plumbing involves satisfying several California codes and requirements and individual city or county offices. Different cities will have different requirements for everything from ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) codes, bonding codes, and many others.

Pre-Gunite Inspection

After a hole is dug, steel is placed, and plumbing is installed. The building department sends an inspector to look at your steel, compare what you have to the provided engineering, and also look at plumbing systems to ensure they are under pressure and have no leaks.

Gunite/Shotcrete

Gunite is usually a dry mix mixed on site that has water added at the nozzle of the hose, while shotcrete will be a premixed concrete that is typically shot at a higher pound per square inch (psi). While 2,500 psi will typically be all that is required for a gunite or shotcrete pool depending on the location, soil, or complexity of the pool, a higher psi may be required in some circumstances.

Tile, Coping, and Concrete

It is important to have tile, coping, or concrete work included because having it addressed later on can be costly. While certain cities could allow you to get away without installing any type of bonding to the outside materials, fairly new codes are now being enforced by more and more city inspectors every day.

Fence and Gate/Pre-plaster Inspection

An inspection in which the city or county verifies that your enclosures and walls on your property meet proper state and local codes must comply with California state code requiring all fences and gates to be 5 feet tall, self-closing, self-latching, and outward swinging. The state does allow for some adaptation to be made at the county and city levels.

Plaster and Start-up

Different kinds of materials could be used to finish the interior of a pool and you will want to speak to your swimming pool constructor for personal recommendations. Also try to get opinions of your friends, family members, and anyone else you know who has a pool.

Final Inspection

The final inspection will be the last chance for a local inspector to come out and find anything wrong with the project. An inspection is basically a formality and only done to ensure that everything that was previously up to code on prior inspections remains up to code upon completion of construction.
